OK, I’m not here for a big blog this time just to comment on something I heard before I forget.
This has got to be THE stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Somene has had the smart idea to introduce a £10 Permit to by tobacco. I’m not even a smoker and I think this is retarded. You have to pay in order to be allowed to buy something! That’s like being made to have a permit to buy lemonade. “I’m sorry Mr Hill you need a permit to buy Pringles now, they can be fattening.”
JeeeeeeeeeeeeesuS. How stupid??!! What about people like me? I buy one cigar a year – at New Year. Does that mean I have to have a permit? To pay a tenner for one cigar.??
This marvelous idea is the ‘brain’ child of Professor Julian LeGrand. He thinks that the inconvenience of getting a permit would deter people from smoking. Moronic. Truly moronic.
That is all for today.

I think you miss the point about the licences. Not only would they help people who want to quit to give up, but they would also help to prevent under-age smoking. I do think they should consider making the permits free (if necessary by offsetting the costs with tobacco duty), simply to stop the cost being used as a reason for people opposing it. £10 a year isn’t going to stop anyone smoking, considering the amount of money they waste on their habits already. But having consciously to fill in a form each year might make some people think twice.

Nanny state. Completely ridiculous. The problem nowadays is people don’t take responsibility for their own actions. You have people suing companies like Mcdonald’s for making them fat. They CHOOSE to eat the burgers. Plausible deniability by companies? Plausible deniability from the consumer I say.
I’m not even a smoker, infact I’m completely anti – but it’s a personal choice.
Jonathan, Mr. Hill having an option that is not that same as yours isn’t missing the point.
